The 27th annual Lake City Open will be taking place in Polson at Polson Bay Golf Course this weekend. This event annually attracts one of the Montana’s strongest amateur and professional fields. Top amateurs in this years field include past champion Ty Weingart out of Polson and Great Falls natives Spencer Williams and Ryan Fritz. Other amateur standouts include Carroll College golf coach Ben McIntyre, and 2013 Mid Amateur champion Logan Lindholm as well as Junior Amateur Champion Ryggs Johnston of Libby. The Lake City Open is the first 2017 points event for the Montana State Golf Association. The Championship division has 28 players with MSGA handicap index of 2.9 or less.
The professional field is led by defending champion Corey Prugh, six time Lake City Open champion Ryan Malby, past champion Jim Mee, & 2016 Pacific Northwest Section Player of the Year Brian Thornton. The Senior Professional field is led by former Lake City Open winner and former PGA Tour player Mike Grob and host professional and past Lake City Open champion Roger Wallace. The Professional Purse is $9500 with $3000 to first place and the Amateur purse is $9250 with $750 to the overall champion. The Lake City Open is presented by Polson Scholarship & Education Foundation. Polson Scholarship & Education Foundation is a locally operated and supported scholarship foundation, established to provide Polson High School graduates with scholarships and financial encouragement. The Lake City Open annually raises upwards of $10,000 for the scholarship fund through tournament sponsors. Founded in 2002 Polson Scholarship & Education Foundation has awarded $216,150 to 235 Polson High School Graduates.
